Democratic Party of Orange County (DPAC) welcomes Dennis Kucinich

On Monday Dec. 10, 2008, DPAC organized a fundraising  for Congressman Dennis Kucinich at the home of Mr. Kamron Jabbari and his wife, Fahim.  Iranian American Democrats of Orange County (IADOC) participated in this well attended event.  Congressman discussed his visions for America and the World, at the time where both domestic policies such as healthcare and economy and International issues such as Iraq war and the tension with Iran are at the top of everyone's mind.  Congressman, explained  his plans as how to put America back on its track and regain her image in the World stage peacefully.

At the closing, several audience members asked the congressman about, lack of adequate health insurance coverage, racial profiling, and how to  diffuse current Mid East tension between US and Iran.

IADOC Voter's Registration @ Mehregan

At 2008 Mehregan fall festival, IADOC had a Voter's registration drive to register as many as Iranian-Americans who are citizen, yet not registered.  We had a good turn out and were received enthusiastically by Iranian-Americans.


DPAC Welcomes Senator Barack Obama

On Monday June 11, 2008, Democratic presidential contender, Senator Barack Obama attended a fundraising event at the home of Michael and Sholeh Chegini.  The event was well attended and it raised over $150,000 according to Michael.   "A lot of people don't understand what the Democratic party means here because it has been in the background for so long," Chegini said. "But we're starting to be offensive instead of defensive and we're bringing figures like Obama here to win the country back."           Read more...


Open House in North Orange County

On May 19, 2008, the Iranian American Democrats of Orange County held an event in Yorba Linda at the home of Sousan & Seyfie Rafiei.  The gathering was attended by many Iranian-Americans of the community and included several prominent members of the Democratic Party of Orange County, including the Vice Chair, and Political Director. as well as Mr. Steve Young, Candidate for Congress in the 48th Congressional District and Mr. Ron Shepston in the 42nd Congressional District.  The objective of the meeting was to provide an opportunity for the Democratic Party of Orange County to meet and interact with members of North Orange County.  Mr. Steve Young talked about how an attack against Iran could have disastrous consequences in the region and the World.  and "the only solution to the current problems between the two countries is through United Nations and direct diplomacy".  Many in the audience were interested to join the IAD and to support its mission.  Mr. Jason Jazayeri the president of IAD discussed the needs for involvements of Iranian-Americans in local politics and how we can make a difference in policies and decisions that would affect us all.


California State Democratic Convention (April 26-28, 2008)


DPOC Latest News
This past weekend, Orange County had a huge presence at the California Democratic Convention in San Diego. Over 100 delegates were able to see the leading presidential contenders and Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

OC Award Winners Even better, Orange County's own Tim Steed was elected President of the California Young Democrats, while Lindsay Hopkins was elected Vice President of Finance. Chris Roa was elected Orange County Regional Director.

Meanwhile, Chair Ferial Govashiri and the Orange County Young Democrats were awarded Chapter of the Year by the California Young Democrats.
Finally, Melahat Rafiei, Political Director for the Democratic Party of Orange County, won the 2008 John F. Kennedy, Jr. Award for outstanding public service by a young person in California. Melahat was selected for this prestigious award after having displayed outstanding leadership qualities in the service of others in California.
Congratulations to Tim, Lindsay, Chris, Ferial, Melahat, and all Orange County Democrats on a tremendous weekend!

March 24, 2008 Dennis Kucinich

Rep. Kucinich discussed his Peace Plan for Iraq (HR 1234),
the Conyers/Kucinich plan for genuine universal SINGLE-PAYER NON-PROFIT health care (HR 676) and the Kucinich plan to put America back to work. This meeting took place at the IBEW Local #441 Union Hall.

Both Jason Jazayeri and Majid Movahed participated in this meeting and met the Rep. Kucinich and his wife for some discussions about Iran, and other issues.   Rep. Kucinich has a web site (www.dennis4president.com) where you can participate and provide feed back to him as to how to fix the current problems as it pertains to Iraq War, The economy, Universal health care and preventing another war against possibly Iran in the Middle East.


Feb. 10th, 2008 "Open House"

On February 10, 2008, the Iranian American Democrats of Orange County held an event in Irvine that was attended by many leaders of the community and included several prominent members of the Democratic Party of Orange County, including the Executive Director, the Director, Vice Chair, and others. The objective of the meeting was to provide an opportunity for the Democratic Party of Orange County to meet and interact with members of the Iranian American community and to strengthen the relationship between the two. Mike Levin, the Executive Director of DPOC stressed the importance of participation by the Iranian Americans in the political process and in particular in the Democratic Party. IADOC also informed the participants of the upcoming events in 2008, including visits by Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama, John Edwards, and others.


 

Meet the Candidate Night (Nov. 1, 2006)

 

IAD board of directors invited local Democratic candidates to present their positions in regard to both local and national issues particularly those that effect Iranian- Americans at large.

Steve Young and Jim Brandt (US Congress); Hon. Mayor Beth Krom (City of Irvine); Hon. Sukhee Kang & Mary Ann Gaido (Irvine City Council); Sheila Hanson (O.C. Superior Court Judge); Michael Glover (State Assembly). The gathering was well attended by local Iranian-American Community.

IAD board of directors welcomed three local candidates Mr. Steve Young, Mrs. Florice Orea Hoffman and Mr. Michael Glover who presented their qualifications and agenda for both local and national political  races in the upcoming November election.  The event  was also attended by IAD friends and supporters at Jimmy Z restaurant.


 

Governor Howard Dean in O.C. (May 9,2006)

 

Democratic Foundation of Orange County Chair Wylie Aitkin hosted a reception for the  Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at Imperial Promenade Water Gardens in Santa Ana.

 

Iranian-American Democrats of Orange County, Mr. Jazayeri, Movahed, Chegini, Hedjazi, Shakeri, Mesbah, and Goharzad and their guests along with prominent Democrats in Orange County participated in this event.


Social Mixer @ Panini Restaurant (April 12, 2006)

Iranian-American Democrats of Orange County and their guests met and discussed the goals and challenges of Democrats in 2006.

Some of the goals discussed are to replace the governor with a Democrat, to gain back the legislature by Democrats, and to get a Democrat president in the office in 2008.

How do we educate the Iranian community about politics here in the US? This is an ongoing challenge that we all should work on will succeed in the long run.


Friends of Hillary Clinton fundraising (Oct. 15, 2005)

“Mohsen Nazemi, former President of Iranian-American Democrats of Orange County (IADOC), and his wife, Leyla Moussavian-Nazemi, meet Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and offer IADOC’s support for Senator Clinton and the National Democratic Party.  A number of IADOC Board members, including Mrs. Shiva Farivar and Mr. Jayson Jazayeri, in addition to Mr. Nazemi participated in a reception and fundraising event that was sponsored by Friends of Hillary and was held on October 15, 2005 at Mr. & Mrs. Razmjoo’s residence in Newport Beach.  During this fundraising event, Mr. Nazemi got an opportunity to meet with the Senator and introduced IADOC to Senator Clinton.  Mr. Nazemi also offered IADOC’s support for the Senator and the National Democratic Party in an effort to advance IADOC’s mission to create and maintain a strong political voice for the Iranian-American community.”


In other news;

IADOC participates and supports the fundraising event sponsored by Relief International (RI) on October 16, 2005 at the Caspian Restaurant in Irvine to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina.  On this evening, IADOC Board members, Mr. Mohsen Nazemi and Mr. Jayson Jazayeri, as well as other IADOC members Mr. Fred Marzara and his daughter, Ms. Maryam Marzara, participated in the fundraising event.  Mr. Nazemi, President of IADOC, gave an Opening Remark in support of the fundraising activities of RI for events such as the Bam earthquake and Hurricane Katrina and suggested RI to also hold additional fundraisings for victims of the Pakistan earthquake.  Mr. Nazemi also invited the Iranian-Americans present at this event and others who are interested to join IADOC in support of our efforts to promote an effective political voice for Iranian-Americans.  This event was attended by many local, state and national elected officials and dignitaries and popular Persian entertainers and stars, as well as Persian media.”
